Industrial Park Stormwater Treatment Train 
The MDEQ has proclaimed the site as a good example and a prudent approach
for treating stormwater before it enters a trout stream. |
- During the second phase of the industrial park construction, a unique
stormwater system was designed to alleviate the impact of stormwater
runoff on a previously unrecognized wetland and a down-stream trout
population.
- The system included a treatment train that consisted of three cells: a
sediment cell, an infiltration cell and 3.5 acres of newly created
wetland.
- The project also included native plantings to ensure long-term system
viability.
- The new wetland has a waterfowl island, wet pond and a
micro-pool.

Liberty Heights Reconstruction Project Buchanan, MI

Upgrade of infrastructure included a leaching type storm sewer system. |
- Created a leaching type storm sewer system that promotes absorption
into the ground instead of a free flow out to the St. Joseph River.
- The project contains 5,900 linear feet of storm sewer varying in size
between 12 and 18 inches, 7,500 linear feet of water main, 5,100 linear
feet of sanitary sewer replacement and dredging of a downstream
pond.
- The design was based on standards, specifications and procedures of
MDEQ and MDNR.

Pokagonek Édawat - Phases I & II Dowagiac, MI

Developed a Master Plan for this 320- acre, mixed-use site. |
- This 43-acre condominium development is one of the area’s first open
space/cluster designs.
- It consists of 17 single-family units on 20 lots, with environmental
elements including restoration of the surrounding area to native
prairie, woodlands and agricultural uses, preservation and accentuation
of rare circular glacial depressions, and considerable open space around
the homes.
- The development also includes private roads and drives with interlocking
pavers, walking paths, and underground public gas, electric,
telephone, sanitary sewer, and cable.
- Future phases will expand on the site restoration, and may include
commercial and retail amenities.
This project received the Best Practices and Innovation Award by
the Department of Housing and Urban Development, office of
Native American Programs.

Hickory Creek Interceptor, Lincoln & St. JosephTownships, Berrien County, MI

The corrugated metal pipe system has deteriorated due to the corrosive nature of sewage. The pipe has experienced excessive infiltration and inflow. |
- The Southwest Michigan Regional Sanitary Sewer and Water Authority developed a plan using trenchless cured-in-place lining technology to repair the deteriorated corrugated metal pipe.
- The original interceptor was installed in 1973 in native soils that did not allow the use of conventional pipe materials or methods of construction.
- Each corrugated metal pipe sanitary manhole will be sealed with a high-strength composite lining system, and all manholes were raised above the known flood elevations.

Lakeland Regional Health System, Royalton Campus

Comprehensive plan for existing and new development. |
- The site design was particularly challenging due to the high groundwater
and extremely poor soils. A regional stormwater management
system was developed as part of the project to assist with the drainage
of the new development and existing development in the area.
- The site was designed to both bring the outdoors into the building
and provide space outside for the employees and patients.
- Coordinated with drain commission on regional stormwater master plan.

Nottawaseppi Huran Band
of The Potawatomi
Mishkoswen Master Land Use Plan & Development,
Athens Township, MI -
A 13-unit development will be constructed north of T Drive and be accessed from the existing reservation property (Pamptopee Trail). A private water system consisting of wells and 8” water main, new roads and five LEED homes are included in the project.
Harbor Shores
Hideaway Development,Phase II
Benton Harbor, MI

The project will be a 58 lot residential development with a club house. The project is on the Paw Paw River and is adjacent to hole #6 of the Harbor Shores Golf Course. The project is designed to incorporate eco-friendly concepts. The site will have narrow bituminous roads with rain gardens along the edges to capture and clean up the storm water runoff. The native soils do not consist of good road bed material and will result in the use of various geotextile fabrics to reinforce the proposed roadway. There are two county drains which will be modified as part of this project. Both of these drains will incorporate native stones and plantings to assist in the cleansing of the storm water as well as create the sound of cascading water. The site will be served with both sanitary sewer and water main.
Village of Three Oaks Street Improvements
The Village of Three Oaks qualified for MDOT Small Urban roadways within the Village limits grant money through the Rural Task Force. The $150,000.00 grant amount represents 80% of a construction project with an estimated cost of $187,500. In order to obtain the funds, the Village had to match of 20% of this construction cost ($37,500), as well as the professional fees. The project involves removal of pavement, storm sewer mprovements, sidewalk improvements at the intersections, placement of a 3” asphalt base and 1 ½” asphalt overlay of South Elm Street between Ash Street and Paw Paw Street.
